US Navy Philippine Campaign Medal # 105, beautifully rim engraved to "Midshipman F. McCommon" 105 "Brooklyn, Kentucky". It's interesting that the medal is named to him as a Midshipman which was his rank at the time that he earned the medal. He was not commissioned as an Ensign until 1904. Commander McCommon was a member of the Naval Academy Class of 1901 and retired in 1919. He was also issued a Cuban Pacification Medal and possibly several others (WWI Victory, American Campaign, etc.), locations unknown. McCommon was recalled to active duty for WWII and died in 1959. He is buried at Arlington National Cemetery. With the medal are 22 pages of scanned research on cd-rom.
